1. Robot Restaurant
The Robot Restaurant is a themed restaurant & bar, which features a show with robots, dragons, ninjas, dancers, neon lights and a loud mix of music. The restaurant is a surreal journey into the weird side of Japanese pop-culture.
At the entrance, you are ushered past two giant robot statues that have seats in front of them as a photograph moment. The hallway is covered in a shiny, iridescent surface. As you go into the main room, you are impacted with a sensory overload. There are thousands of tiny lights on the ceiling, a band playing Disney songs and so many colours that you might not know where to look.
The featured show is a combination of J-pop and electronic music at the front of the room. The robotic monsters are controlled along with the music, and the dancers run around singing along. The laser part of the show is a much calmer sequence. The performers as well as the audience scream out the lyrics, jump up and dance.
2. Capsule Hotels
Tokyo offers many unique sleeping experiences for travellers, but the Japanese hotel pod is one not to miss. The capsule hotels are individual blocks with enough room to sleep, and include amenities such as a TV or tablet. The blocks are side by side in rows, with one unit on top of the other. Your luggage is stored in a separate locker, and the bathroom facilities are normally shared.
The capsules are inexpensive, and quite easy to use, making them perfect for business men. But since this is such a curious room, you should definitely try it at least once!
According to our locals Capsule Inn Kajicho is the best place to stay. All of their hotels are located within 5 minutes of a train station, and they offer the safest and cleanest accommodations with 24-hour patrolling!
3. Cosplay Go-Kart
MariCAR offers the ability to drive all around Tokyo in a go-kart. You are set up with costumes, carts and given free reign of the city. You can drive around, but still must obey the rules of the road. There is no special license necessary, instead you only need a valid Japanese License or equivalent.
If you are trying it out with friends, you are given the option to have communication bands to talk with your friends while driving. Cameras are attached to the carts to capture the fun moments!
4. Alcatraz ER
In the area of Shibuya, the Alcatraz E.R. has shown up. This medical prison-themed diner is a crazy site.
As you arrive, you are handcuffed and led into the main room. As dinner commences, you are locked into a cell. The waiters are nurses who are covered in blood and serve you an array of ‘unappetizing’ looking food. Some dishes include ‘dead chicken’, ‘intestines’ and ‘blood.’ The cocktails are also stirred with sex toys. To get the attention of your server, you have to bang metal pipes against the bars of your cell.
This experience is very unusual and one that you will never forget. It is one of Japan’s oldest and scariest themed restaurants. The interior of the restaurant has dirty looking walls, steel tables and gives the feeling of a haunted prison for the criminally insane. Graffiti on the walls read frightening messages, and to add to the atmosphere old hospital TVs are hung up displaying terrifying images.
5. Niwa No Yu
Onsen, or public baths, can be found everywhere, and it is a must-do in Japan to relax.
Niwa no Yu is a large onsen with many different types of baths, including plenty of room to relax. Though they seem like giant warm pools to play in, the onsens are meant to relieve stress, detox and refresh your spirit. Perfect in the middle of this busy city.
