If you want to experience authentic Tokyo, Asakusa is the place to be. It’s one of Tokyo’s most beautiful neighborhoods.
It’s the centre of Shitamachi, meaning low city in Japanese, since there are few skyscrapers and countless alleyways that are centuries old.
When you walk there, it feels as if time stood still.
Famous Senso-ji temple is a must visit for newbies to Japanese culture.
The temple was completed in the year 645, making it Tokyo’s oldest temple.
In front of the temple there’s a 200 meter long street with shops on both sides. Typical Japanese souvenirs are sold by very friendly salesmen.
